FORD, Cecil George

Cecil George Ford was born in Hampstead, London in 1894 to James Pile Ford and Blanche Elizabeth Hancock, the second of their three sons. James, a Jobbing Gardener, and Blanche were both from Barnstaple in Devon, though they were married in London. They were living in Churchill Road in Willesden in 1911 and James was still there in the 1939 Register.

Cecil initially enlisted in the Lincolnshire Regiment as a Private, Service Number 2670/150791, before moving to the Labour Corps, Service Number 199154, where he was a Lance Corporal. In September 1917 he received a commission into the Norfolk Yeomanry as 2nd Lieutenant. He was with the 2/1st Regiment, a second-line regiment that moved to Ireland in May 1918.

He was presumably returning home on leave when he travelled on RMS Leinster on the 10th of October. He did not survive the sinking nor was his body recovered. His name is recorded on the Hollybrook Memorial in Southampton.
